Winter: it's not you, it's me.

I'm really sorry winter, but this thing between us just isn't working out. You like dark, grey, icy mornings and I prefer sunshine and warmth (although I'll admit we're both fond of our slippers).

You like having the sun set halfway through the afternoon, whereas I like long, balmy evenings where I can walk around the streets of my city with my friends, seeking out brightly colored drinks and salty tapas.

You like icy, cutting winds that blow through even the sturdiest of coats -- even those ones designed for people who climb Mount Everest and clamor around on glaciers. I like light summery breezes that carry the smell of grass clippings and sunshine and that are just cool enough to take the heat from the sun.

You like stews, I like salads.

You like umbrellas, I like parasols.

You like cabernet sauvignon, I like chardonnay.

We both like naps, I'll give you that. And yeah, we both like my Jimmy Choo boots. But that's it.

I'm sorry winter, this just isn't working out. I'm afraid you're going to have to leave.

  1. Oh, I'm with you on that. I love, love, love having the back door wide open all day and being able to drift in and out of the garden, eating all meals outside, barbequing, long twilights. Sigh. Seems like Summer will never come sometimes and this winter seems more brutally cold than recent years. Rug up and keep warm with a good wine and a nice cuppa :-)

    1. I agree - this winter has been particularly bad. You're right though, it is an excuse to snuggle up with a good wine and a nice cuppa -- perhaps that's one other thing winter and I have in common... :)

  2. Beautifully put. Melbourne in winter is something else. We don't get the quiet magic of snow, just months of drizzle and the occasional ray of sun that gets our hopes up before dashing it.

    1. That's it. If there was snow, I think I could cope - maybe. (And that brings a host of other issues with it.) I just think when it's snowing there's a mental preparedness that when you go outside, it's going to be cold. But the grey bleakness is making me feel very weary.

    1. It's totally depressing! Thank goodness it's only weather and it will hopefully change soon. Although not soon enough for my tastes...

  4. I totally agree - I'm so sick of the cold weather and we still have months left.

The only good thing about winter is wearing my gorgeous boots and new, super warm coat - swish huh???

    Bring on summer!!

I do agree that the best thing about winter is the clothes. Your new boots and coat sound awesome!
